Job Description – Director
Program Mission Statement
The Christian Preschool of Atonement Lutheran shares God’s love through Jesus Christ in south Seattle. We assist and work together with parents to nurture and develop the whole child – spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially.
Director Requirements:
-Is a regularly-attending member of an LCMS congregation
-Demonstrates Christian character
-Has at least two year’s early childhood experience in a classroom setting
-Agrees to regular criminal background checks
-Has administrative experience
Director Hours:
-Approximately 5-8 hours/week
-If the Director is also the Teacher, both roles combine to about 25 hours/week
Duties (some may be delegated):
ENROLLMENT – Carry out adopted recruitment and enrollment procedures; work to build up our program’s image in the community; maintain lists of prior and potential students.
SAFETY – Follow Public Health’s recommendations, according to the Preschool Committee’s advice; conduct monthly Earthquake, Fire, and Lockdown drills; inform the Board of Property of any safety concerns.
FINANCES – Handle all tuition payments and deposits; write receipts; keep accurate records of income/expenses; purchase supplies and equipment (purchases over $500 must be approved by the Board of Directors); approve staff timecards; assist with the annual congregation budget; operate within the budget.
STAFF OVERSIGHT – Supervise the operation of the preschool, ensuring that all polices adopted by the Preschool Committee are carried out; with the Teacher, plan a curriculum that is age-appropriate, Christ-centered and meets the stated mission of our preschool; assist with interviews of prospective staff members and make recommendations to the Board; see that all regular staff members are given criminal background checks; plan and implement a program for the spiritual and professional growth of the staff.
PARENT INFORMATION – Write parent newsletters and calendars monthly; decorate the foyer bulletin boards and “photo corner”; update the monthly outdoor information board; regularly update social media and website; text, call, or email parents as appropriate, when there are emergency situations.
CHURCH LEADERSHIP & CONGREGATION INFORMATION & INVOLVEMENT – Follow all reasonable instructions given by the Preschool Committee, as well as the Staff Expectations in the official Preschool Operating Policy handbook; Provide information to the Preschool Committee on the ongoing progress of the program and staff; provide a congregation newsletter quarterly; provide for ways to increase the connection between preschool families and the congregation, such as invite the congregation to preschool events and invite the preschool families to church services.
