Creating ‘Undeniable Bonds’ at the NOW Pastors’ Wives Retreat

The wives of area NOW District pastors gathered again this year in Tigard, Oregon for a weekend of refreshment, friendship, food, fun, and time studying the words of our great God. This 4th annual retreat saw continued growth, with 24 wives from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho in attendance.

The group represented a variety of ages and life stages, but all shared the unique bond of being married to men who have dedicated their lives to serving God in the pastorate. This experience creates commonality and undeniable bonds. Michele Sprengle is on the retreat planning team, and she was happy for the chance to spend time with the other women.

“Many old friends were embraced, and new friends were met. We welcomed eight new attendees this year,” she said. “Amelia Laws drove all the way from Grant’s Pass with her brand-new twin boys. She was a huge hit, as so many of us grandmas got to hold littles.”

Keynote speaker, Donna Snow, is a well-known author, speaker, and teacher. It was a privilege to have her lead through a study of the book of Esther, with a focus on Esther 4:14: “… And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” The theme of the weekend leaned into the idea that we are all daughters of the King and as such are royalty.

Saturday evening, the women enjoyed creating take-home spa gifts to remind them to take care of themselves and that they are valued in the eyes of God, our Father and King.

“Our spa night was so much fun! We made a face mask a sugar scrub and other personal items to take home,” Sprengle said. “These were reminders to pamper ourselves even in the busyness of life.”

Therapist Katrina Barnes, who spoke at last year’s retreat, generously offered to return and provide individual sessions for any attendees who wished to speak with her. Many took advantage of this opportunity; her wisdom and expertise were valuable and very welcome.

The retreat was filled with meaningful moments, and the organizers want to extend an invitation to all pastors’ wives in the NOW District to attend in the future. Whether you are actively serving, retired, or a widow, you are welcome and valued in this community! Planning for the 2026 retreat will begin soon; look for details as they become available.
