Christ Is Risen Indeed – Day 6 of the LCMS National Convention

Important business awaited the delegates this morning. The desire to finish the business at hand was evident. Synod President Rev. Matthew Harrison proposed an amended schedule for the day that would end the convention two hours earlier than originally planned. Those revised orders were adopted. The Consent Calendar was shared with the Convention. The following resolutions were adopted as being accepted by consent in the morning session:

3-03A – To Thank God for work of LCMS Disaster response and Human Care Partners and To Require Districts to Appoint Disaster Response Coordinators
3-05A – To Commend Efforts to Serve Worker Wellness and Encourage Participation in Concordia Plan Services
Floor Committee #3 – Mercy led the charge on the remaining resolutions this morning. The following resolutions were adopted:

3-06A – To Encourage Synod to Respond to the Growing Addiction Crisis
Up next was Floor Committee #1 – National Witness. The following resolutions were adopted in the morning session:

1-10 – To Confront Increased Idolatry of Our Culture with Clear Confession of Love of Christ and Lutheran Resources in Christian Apologetics
1-06A – To Support Lutheran Congregations and Schools in Urban Contexts
1-11A – To Confess God’s Design for the Family
A new resolution was then brought to the floor titled “To Address Modern Day Martyrdom.” The section of the new resolution that brought about very heated and at times contentious debate was a WHEREAS that read as follows: “The public assassination of Charlie Kirk and suspicions that Kirk’s faith played a large role in the attacker’s motive have brought concerns for many parishioners about growing violence against Christians in America.”
A motion was made to remove that WHEREAS from the overall new resolution. Following more debate, the motion to remove this WHEREAS failed as it received only 46% of the vote. The original resolution including the WHEREAS in question was then presented to the delegates. It was approved with 79% voting yes.
Chairman Harrison then thanked the volunteers and workers for the convention. As this 2026 gathering draws to a close and we all return to the communities that the Lord has brought us to, my prayer is that we would continue working to connect people to Jesus with joy and hope in the Lord’s promises for us.
