Trinity’s 20-Year Journey of Faith

Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Bend, Oregon, is an incredible story of faith and perseverance.

After deciding to leave their original sanctuary about 20 years ago, the congregation worshiped in the school gymnasium — what was supposed to be a five-year interim stretched to two decades.

When COVID hit in March 2020, the school went from about 300 students meeting in person to online classes for the remainder of the year, and their first combined budget showed a projected $500,000 loss. Against the odds, enrollment recovered and eventually surged to nearly 670 students in preschool through 12th grade.

With financial support and guidance from LCEF, a bold new vision emerged: Instead of building just a church or just a school, they chose to build Trinity. A new facility is now opening that includes a purpose-built sanctuary, new classrooms, and a science lab — all designed to serve both the congregation and the growing school.

In a region where many families aren’t actively seeking a Christian education, Trinity is welcoming them with open arms and sharing the hope of Jesus with Central Oregon, one student and one family at a time.
