The 68th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod will be held from July 29 to Aug. 3, 2023, at the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Synod will gather under the convention theme, “We Preach Christ Crucified,” based on 1 Cor. 1:18–25.
Here is some info to help you prepare:
Four overtures were submitted by our district for consideration and are included in the convention workbook. These are the issues that delegates at the 2022 NOW District Convention voted to memorialize and send to the 2023 Synod Convention. It is helpful to read through these so you can understand the perspectives that are important to our district:
To Delay the Process of Restructuring the Concordia University System
To Honor and Give Thanks for the Ministry of Concordia University Portland
To Consider the Use of Deacons in Word and Sacrament Ministry
To Increase Distance Education Opportunities to Train General Ordained Ministers
The Proposed Resolutions can be found in the first issue of Today’s Business. It also includes a tentative schedule, official announcements, and additional information pertaining to the 2023 LCMS convention.
A new app will make it easy to access the convention agenda, speaker and session information, presentations, and more.
The parliamentary procedures may help you understand more about how the convention works: Robert’s Rules of Order and A Parliamentary Chart of Motions and Actions.
The workbook is available online. You can also download a copy of the latest Synod Handbook (this is different from the convention workbook). The Bylaws and Constitution are what govern our Synod; it may help explain some of the processes at convention.
This convention will be livestreamed. Go here to watch the sessions. Please share this link with others in your congregation who might wish to follow along.
