Concordia University – Portland

Concordia University – Portland was an integral part of the NOW District more than 100 years. Its closure in 2020 created a deep and profound hole that can never be filled. It was a loss felt throughout the entire LCMS church body.

We honored the legacy of the institution at the 2022 NOW District Convention in many ways – one of which was to show a very special tribute video (see above) featuring heartfelt memories from alumni and supporters. Each person in the video spoke of the impact Concordia had on their life and shared their unique memories of the campus. We join them in giving thanks for those opportunities.

A Resolution was also passed to honor and give thanks for the ministry of Concordia University – Portland with a directive for “the elected officers of the Northwest District be charged with keeping the legacy and ministry of Concordia University – Portland alive within the District and within the Synod.” One way we are keeping the legacy alive is through this page on our website that features videos, resources, stories, photos, and special memories honoring Concordia.

If you have anything you wish to contribute, please email elenas@nowlcms.org. We hope to feature as many examples of Concordia’s impact as possible.
